Hyalophora cecropia and euryalus

Hyalophora cecropia - Female
Cecropia/Euryalus Hybrid - Male
Hyalophora euryalus - Male
Cecropia is found in eastern North America and Euryalus is found mostly on the west coast. Their ranges do not overlap but there is another species, Columbia gloveri that inhabits the mountain states with some overlap with both the other ranges. Natural hybrids occur. When cecropia and euryalus are artificially brought together it is possible to obtain hybrids like the one in the image above. The males of these pairing are fertile but the females are not.
